Waiwhakareke is a 60 ha natural Heritage Park within the urban context of Hamilton City. Its vision is to restore and recreate the pre-European native plant and animal communities that once existed within the Waikato basin. Restoration within Waiwhakareke has many goals including education, tourism and linking Hamilton Zoo-s conservation and education programmes. In the initial Management Plan (operative 2011), it was the intention to protect the Park with a predator exclusion fence in the future. The overarching goals for the Waiwhakareke restoration programme include: · Complete a world class ecological island with an urban environment · Restore and protect flora and fauna to mirror the pre-1800-s landscape · Connect with the Zoo education programme and · Become a world class visitor destination The purpose of this Procurement process is to ensure equitable opportunity to bid for supply and installation of a predator proof fence at Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park is provided to all experienced predator proof fence suppliers in New Zealand.
