• New Plymouth District CouncilThe opportunity - What we need New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) is seeking a suitably qualified Mechanical Services Contractor to design and build a new heat pump system for the Waitara Pool in Waitara, New Zealand. The Waitara Pool is a valued community asset which experiences 15,000 to 20,000 visits each year. The Waitara Pool serves as a seasonal hub for recreation, fitness, and water safety education. Given its significance, ensuring the pool remains operational, sustainable, and cost-effective is essential, making the transition to a heat pump system a strategic investment in both environmental responsibility and long-term community service. The Waitara Pool Heating Upgrade Project aims to replace the aging and insufficient gas-based heating system with a modern, sustainable solution that ensures consistent water temperature, reduced operational costs, and aligns with NPDCs climate goals. The preferred solution entails the installation of high-efficiency electric heat pumps. As part of the electrification works, it has been determined that an electrical infrastructure upgrade, is required to meet the increased electrical load associated with the heat pump system. This upgrade not only enhances energy efficiency and indoor comfort but also directly support the New Plymouth District Councils Environmental Sustainability Policy. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions, the project embodies the policys pillars of climate change mitigation, resource efficiency, and kaitiakitanga demonstrating leadership in environmental stewardship for future generations. It's anticipated that the successful contractor will collaborate with professional engineering and design consultancies to deliver the designed design component, should they not possess this capability in-house.
