Close Date: Monday, 03 August 2026, 9:00 AM (Pacific/Auckland UTC+12:00). Tender Type: Request for Proposals (RFP). Region: Waikato Overview: Waikato Regional Council is seeking serious and credible public transport operators to deliver the new bus contracts. This RFP covers units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The contracts are to run for a period of 9 years with an option to extend by 2 years. Contracts for units 1 & 2 start on 01 July 2028 and contracts for units 3, 4, 5 and 10 start on 01 November 2027. We are looking to achieve our goal of full decarbonisation of the bus fleet by 2035. We are adopting a market-led approach to the timing and staging of ZEB transition. No pre-determined split of diesel versus electric fleet is being imposed at the start of contracts, providing flexibility for you to optimise fleet investment but the expectation is that we achieve a fully ZEB fleet by 2035. There is a briefing for interested respondents via MS Teams on Wednesday, 15 April 2026 and 1:00 PM.
